GAIN ENCOURAGES PROFESSIONALISM WITH NEW
CRITERIA AND CODE OF CONDUCT
New Logo and Set for Promotion to Registered Social Landlords
Working towards a higher level of professionalism for heating
contractors serving the grant market, the Grant Aided Heating
Installers’ Network has taken two important steps forward.
The Association has introduced a new Code of Conduct, which has come
into immediate effect, by which all members agree to abide. It covers
fair dealing with customers, avoiding misleading statements, maintaining
technical registration and competence and a complaints procedure.
This is coupled with a new set of criteria for membership. To join
GAIN installers of heating systems and equipment under a recognised
grant scheme need to be Corgi and/or NICEIC Registered (as appropriate);
to hold Public & Employers Liability Insurance cover of at least £2M; to
have been trading successfully for at least two years, with at least one
year’s set of audited accounts; to abide by the GAIN Code of Conduct; to
confirm that the company and its directors or partners have not been
convicted under the Trading Standards Act, or for fraud or any criminal
activity, or involved in a ceased or liquidated company that had
undischarged debts; to hold an approved Customer Care Policy; to provide
financial and trade references and agree to a visit if required. Members
also need to hold or be committed to achieving a recognised qualitative
award from the following: Investors in People; Investors in Excellence;
1S0 9001: 2000 - QA; IS0 14001 (Environmental); OHSAS 18001 (H & S);
Corgi Certification Scheme (beyond basic registration).
Organisations, who fulfil all the criteria except the two year
trading rule, may be Affiliate members. Manufacturers, suppliers,
distributors, energy suppliers and others, who agree to recognise the
principles of the GAIN Code of Conduct, are being invited to join at the
discretion of the Council.
The new Code has the full support of the Eaga Partnership, working
with GAIN as active members. Adrian Hull, Eaga, commented: “We are
pleased to support this move by the industry to encourage
professionalism, very much in line with our own objectives”. The
Association is also strengthening its own image with the introduction of
a new corporate identity and logo. Paul Cooper, Chairman of GAIN
commented: “Our intention is to promote and seek recognition by
Registered Social Landlords, who will appreciate the quality and
professionalism offered by our members.”
The Grant Aided Heating Installers’ Network currently has contractor
members throughout England and Wales, and invites all professional
organisations serving the grant market throughout the UK to join. GAIN
